Steam Awards 2017 Nominees Revealed, Voting Starts Today

It’s that time of the year again when PC players can cast their votes for their favorites games as part of the Steam Awards. While everybody is thinking about the best games of 2017 during this period, the Steam Awards are a little bit different in the sense that most of the categories include titles that are already several years old. The categories themselves are also very unusual so don’t expect things like Best RPG or Game of the Year here. Just to give you an idea, some of the categories include “Mom’s Spaghetti”, “Defies Description”, and “Whoooaaaaaa, Dude! 2.0.”

Steam users were welcomed to nominate any game they wanted for one of the existing categories and it looks like the selection committee finally managed to count all the votes as the Steam Awards 2017 nominees were just recently announced. There are a total of 13 categories, each featuring 5 games. But since there can be only one winner, Steam users will now have to vote for their favorite games in order to help them win one of the prestigious, albeit virtual-only, awards. The voting rules for the Steam Awards 2017 are pretty straightforward. Every day a single category will be open for voting starting today and ending on January 2nd. All the winners will then be revealed the following day on January 3rd.

First up will be the “Choices Matter” Award, which sounds pretty self-explanatory. This category was created specifically for titles where the choices you make have consequences and help shape the story. There are a number of games that let you do that, but only one of the following five will be able to win the award: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, and Dishonored 2. Voting starts at 10 AM PST, which is about an hour or so as of this writing. So if you’re reading this chances are that you can already go ahead and cast your vote for the “Choices Matter” Award.
