Creative Assembly took an unexpected turn when they decided to move away from historical settings and start developing Warhammer themed Total War games. Despite the success of both Total War: Warhammer and its successor, however, many people didn’t embrace the new fantasy direction and have been hoping for a return to the old formula. Well, if you’re one of those people you’re in luck. Creative Assembly have just announced their new project and it is indeed a new historical Total War game. Check out the trailer below to get a taste of what’s to come.
The developer’s latest game goes by the name of Total War: Three Kingdoms and will take place in China during the 1st century. The year is 190 CE and the Han Dynasty is losing its grip on China as the warlord Dong Zhuo grows in power along with his oppressive regime. While most won’t dare to oppose the tyrant, three heroes ultimately rise to the occasion and challenge Zhuo. Inspired by their bravery and conviction, warlords from China’s great families follow in their footsteps and form an alliance intended to bring peace back to the war-torn country.
That’s just me paraphrasing the description, though, and this is a Total War game so expect plenty of bloodshed and epic-scale violence instead. Large battles are a given when it comes to any Total War game but aside from that, we don’t know a whole lot of details about Three Kingdoms. The trailer does mention that we can expect the game to arrive something this fall so we’ll probably hear a lot more sooner rather than later. Total War: Three Games already has a Steam page so be sure to keep an eye on it if you want to stay up to date with all the latest info.
In addition to Three Kingdoms, Creative Assembly announced yet another upcoming title called Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. Just as its name suggests, the game is set on the British Isles and takes place in 878 AD. Thrones of Britannia is also scheduled to launch this year and there’s already some interesting information available regarding the game. While not yet confirmed, we know that Total War: Warhammer 3 is also coming at some point, possibly even this year. Between Three Kingdoms, Thrones of Britannia and Warhammer 3 it looks like 2018 will be a particularly busy year for the folks over at Creative Assembly.
